The balancing barn

Top modern architecture closer to people. This is the mission of the British company Living Architecture. Public can usually experience top design in shopping malls, airports, but let people “touch it“! Let´s build extravagant summer houses for rent!

The project is built by holland architecture office MVRDV in Suffolk, England. „Summer house should not be boring!“ claims architect Winy Mass, „When you look at this one, you´re thinking: Is it possible? Isn´t it against gravity? We tried to capture the moment when the building is hanging to its maximum, but still being balanced.“

CONCEPT:

  1. Holiday area: build up as less space as possible
  2. Contrast heavy and light materials: heavy in the fixed part and light materials in the suspended part

  3. Get as close as possible to forest and nature around: glass carpet in the living room

  4. Simple shape: from the driveway you would see the building as a usual simple house

  5. Adjustment to the nature surrounding: reflecting covering material
  6. Experience of 4 nature elements: area in the living room with glass carpet, windows on sides and skylights above
